ABOUT US / CONTACT US at moki36@msn.com I was born in and grew up in the state of Utah, an area with some of the worlds most spectacular Geology. People from the western states see so much neat geology that for most of them it becomes common place. As I grew up my parents would take us on trips to see were our ancestors settled in the eighteen hundreds, like Monroe in Sevier County were there are lots of Jurassic rocks as well as volcanic rocks. Fayette Sanpete County were much of the rocks are of the Cretaceous age, Ephraim were much of the rock formations are of Cenozoic age and were my grand father worked in a rock quarry. This is also were they quarried rock for the beautiful Manti temple. Elsinore in Sevier country near Kimberly and Marysvale were gold and silver were mined in the 1890s and later uranium was found in the thirties and forties. When we went fishing we hunted for rocks when we got tired of fishing. Then there were the trips to Topaz Mountain to find topaz and the sand dunes, the trips to Dinosaur national monument and Bryce canyon and Zion’s and the Grand Canyon and the petrified trees near Escalante. When I was a little older we stayed on Lake Powel for a week or so. Here you felt like you were on another planet. There was only sky rock and water and when it rained hundreds of red colored water falls fell from the canyons surrounding us and when it got dark thousands of bats would fill the air. Here is where the largest natural bridge in the world is found and I was amazed when I had a chance to see it. I still think it is one of the most wonderful sites I have seen in my 57 years. I thank my brother and sister in law for taking me along. I have visited yellow Stone Park many times in my life as well as Mt. Saint Helens and the most active volcano on earth Kilauea two times. Geology and paleontology are not just a interest but a way of life and the study of the earth is the most amazing thing of all. I wish more people had the respect for our mother earth she deserves. It is from this view point I decided to build this web site I hope you enjoy visiting ROCKINGEOLOGY.COM THANK YOU LEWIS E. NIELSON |
